Firstly,
the Koran method in calling the
people
of the scripture to Allah
We see it once calling the Jews and the
Christians by saying:
“Say: "O People of the scripture! Come to
common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah, that we
associate no partners with him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords
and patrons other than Allah." If then they turn back, say you: "Bear
witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah’s Will)” Surat : Ala-Imran, verse:
64.
The Koran called the people of the scripture
kindly to the true belief and to leave the false beliefs and untrue worship, in
this noble verse. He called them by: “O People of the scripture!” because
they are the people of the torah and the bible. These two books never differ from
the noble Koran in the foundations of religion, like unifying Allah,
worshipping Him only and equalizing among all people, because the noble Koran
is from Allah and they are also from Allah, and they announced good tidings
about the Koran and about our sir Mohammed (blessing and peace be upon him). They
are also the nearest divine books to the Koran and to our sir Mohammed (blessing
and peace be upon him). The apostle of Allah called them to fundamental and
original matters all the heavenly books agreed to, worshipping Allah only, worshipping
means truthful faith and good deed, faith is the work of the heart and good
deed is the work of the organs. Then he called them to exalt Allah from having
a son, wife and what they falsely related to Him, as this is polytheism. He is
The One who has no ancestors, no descendants, no equivalent and no wife, He is
not consisted of parts, and He is not an essence or an accident, the essence
needs a place to be there and the accident needs an essence to carry it, and
that who needs something never be a God, he doesn’t deserve to be dignified or
worshipped.
The verse made these meanings clear by
saying: “Come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none
but Allah, that we associate no partners with him;” He said: “Come”
it means come quickly and be beyond those false beliefs and untrue worship, we
put our hands and cooperate together, we agree and covenant to unify Allah, glorify
Him and worship Him sincerely and reject all apparent and hidden types of
polytheism.
Allah says: “that we erect not, from
among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah”, it was supposed to
say to them: (that you erect not, from among yourselves, Lords and patrons
other than Allah), because the Jews and the Christians do this, they worship
each other and sanctify each other, thinking their bishops and monks are
sacred, they are infallible and inerrant,
so they obey their orders even if they were against the torah and the
bible because they think they infallible and inerrant, the Koran addressed them
kindly and said: “that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons
other than Allah”, calling both Muslims and the people of scripture
together in this respect, as the Koran said: “and certain it is that either
we or you are on right guidance or in manifest error”, surat Saba’ verse 24.
When this verse: “that we erect not,
from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah”, was revealed
Adey Ibn-Hatem said to the apostle of Allah (blessing and peace be upon him): We
didn’t use to worship them oh apostle of Allah, then the prophet said: Didn’t
they tell you what to do and what not to do? He said: Yes, the apostle said: That’s
it.
Allah says: “If then they turn back”,
if the Jews and the Christians turn away and don’t respond to what you calling
them to, after repeating this call and confuting them by proofs, then you and
the other believers with you say to them: “Bear witness that we (at least)
are Muslims (bowing to Allah’s Will)”, this expression urges the people of
scripture indirectly and pushing them in a pun manner Islam, this means they
admit that Islam is right and that what they believe is just astray and too far
from the true religion of God.
The Koran addressed the Jews and the
Christians many times calling them to Allah in different ways hoping they leave
their temptation and come to the straight religion of Allah. This verse we
mentioned is just an example in front of the reader to realize to what extent
prophet Mohammed and the Holy Koran care about the people of the scripture (the
Jews and the Christians), seeking their safety and hoping their gaining and
their happiness. Whoever Allah wills to guide him to the good, He guides him to
Islam and opens his heart to it, and whoever Allah doesn’t will to guide him no
one ever other than Allah can guide him. Allah has different foresights with
His creatures and if He wills a thing He just says: Be, and it is at once.
